The cast for the biographical film of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis'life has been announced.

The part of Ian Curtis will be played by newcomer Sam Riley and German actress Alexandra Maria Lara will play the part of his lover Annik Honore, according to www.worldinmotion.net.

The film 'Control' will be the debut feature from music director Anton Corbijn, who has previously directed videos for the likes of Nirvana and U2.

La colonna sonora di “Control” inizia a prendere forma con brani di Lou Reed, David Bowie, Iggy Pop (la sua ‘The Idiot' venne ritrovata sul giradischi di Ian Curtis il giorno del suicidio), Roxy Music, Sex Pistols e Buzzcocks.

Le musiche originali sono state affidate ai New Order mentre i Killers hanno realizzato una versione di “Shadowplay” che chiuderà il film.

Questa pletora di artisti è resa possibile sia dall'importanza del soggetto del film sia dal regista Anton Corbijn, già acclamato fotografo e regista di video, alla sua prima prova sulla lunga distanza.

In forse i brani di U2, Marilyn Manson, Doves, The Cure, Bauhaus, The Creatures e Depeche Mode.

Per quanto riguarda le esecuzioni dei Joy Division all'interno del film, dalla produzione fanno sapere che nessuna registrazione dell'epoca verrà utilizzata, infatti, il gruppo di attori che interpretano i singoli membri hanno trovato un ottimo rapporto sia umano sia musicale tanto da imbracciare gli strumenti e realizzare le parti direttamente dal vivo (nella foto l'attore Sam Riley); non era una cosa pianificata dalla produzione ed è stata accolta come un dono.

Il film uscirà nei cinema nel secondo quarto del 2007 ma debutterà a Febbraio presso il festival di Berlino.

New Order Live DVD taken from 2005 concerts in New York and London (initial original release date was June 2006) has been put on hold indefinitely.

No other single will be taken from New Order latest album "Waiting' for the sirens call"

New Order will probably film their Glasgow date (October 18 or 19). Both are completely sold out (Oct 18 was sold out in less than 30 minutes).

As mention by Peter Hook in an interview, Joy Division will have their albums re-release, remaster next year. We should expect a brand new liner note, unreleased pix, restored artwork, bonus tracks. A well thought high quality re-release package with full involvement from the management and the band. 2007 will be the year to rediscover Joy Division.

New Order didn't record Joy Division movie "Control" score yet, they are planning to start just after the UK tour.

"Here are the young men" Joy Division (only video released in 1982) is in plan to get finally a DVD release with some bonus in 2007.

A Joy Division documentary is in progress as we speak with a release also next year.

Since we last hipped you to Control, director Anton Corbijn's retelling of the life, loves, and death of Joy Division sadsack Ian Curtis, we've learned much about the flick. We found out that Sam Riley, likely best known for playing Mark E. Smith in 24 Hour Party People, will adopt the guise of an even bitterer coot in Control's lead role, while Samantha Morton (the goo-covered, crime fighting mandroid from Minority Report) will play Curtis' embattled wife.

We learned that Alexandra Maria Lara, who plays Curtis' mistress Annik Honoré, is smokin'. We learned that the dudes in New Order (birthed, as you're well aware, from the ashes of Joy Division) are less than jazzed about how the film in being handled. And we learned that there'll be a Control launch party at Cannes complete with a moment of silence to mark the 27th anniversary of Curtis' death.

According to a Variety report, the bash will surround the premiere of Control at Cannes on May 17, while members of New Order, Depeche Mode, and U2 (some guy called Bono) are expected to be in attendance.

Control, il film su Ian Curtis e i Joy Division

Applausi al Festival di Cannes per la prima mondiale di Control, il film di debutto del fotografo Anton Corbijn dedicato ai Joy Divisione a Ian Curtis, il loro cantante morto suicida nel 1980. La pellicola del fotografo olandese, autore di alcuni degli scatti più significativi di tutta la storia rock (come la copertina di The Joshua Treedegli U2), è stata presentata all’interno della sezione Quinzaine des Realisateurs e ha buone possibilità di aggiudicarsi la Camera d’Or, il premio riservato alla miglior opera prima.

Ian Curtis si tolse la vita il 17 maggio del 1980, alla vigilia del tour americano che avrebbe dovuto far conoscere il gruppo di Manchester al pubblico d'Oltreoceano, sancendo la fine di una delle band più amate del post-punk britannico. Curtis entrò direttamente nella leggenda, mentre i suoi compagni di viaggio decisero di continuare a suonare insieme, dando vita, di lì a poco, ai New Order(scioltisi, ironia della sorte, nei giorni scorsi).

Corbijn fu l’autore dei primi scatti promozionali del gruppo. «I Joy Division - ha detto il neoregista - furono tra le ragioni per cui decisi di lasciare la Germania e trasferirmi a Londra. Il New Musical Express era come una Bibbia per me e le interviste di Paul Morley alla band sono state una grande fonte di ispirazione per chi, come me, aveva poco più di vent'anni». Tony Wilson, il fondatore della Factory, la casa discografica dei Joy Division, è stato come al solito lapidario: «In genere - ha detto - quando Hollywood decide di raccontare l'industria discografica il prodotto finale è invariabilmente una merda. Noi però abbiamo messo assieme il team giusto per trasporre nel film lo spirito di Ian». La sceneggiatura è stata tratta direttamente da Touching From A Distance, la biografia di Curtis scritta dalla moglie Deborah (produttrice esecutiva del film assieme allo stesso Wilson) e pubblicata in Italia da Giunti con il titolo di Così vicino così lontano.

Poco più che sconosciuto l’attore che interpreta Curtis, Sam Riley, così come gli altri membri del cast, a eccezione di Samantha Morton, che veste i panni della moglie. Joe Anderson, James Anthony Pearson e Harry Treadaway sono gli altri tre Joy Division (Peter Hook, Barney Sumner e Stephen Morris rispettivamente), mentre Craig Parkinson è lo stesso Tony Wilson, Toby Kebbel è Rob Gretton, il manager della band, e Ben Naylor il produttore Martin Hannett. Girato in un bianco e nero che i fan di Corbjin ben conoscono, il film ripercorre la vita di Curtis in maniera fedele al libro scritto dalla moglie, che nelle pagine di Così vicino così lontano faceva pochi sconti allo scomparso marito, raccontando senza ipocrisie il suo carattere impossibile e i suoi tradimenti.

Il film uscirà a fine settembre in Francia e in Olanda, mentre non è ancora nota la data dell’eventuale prima italiana.
